One of the major themes of Game of Thrones was the many ways in which your family can mess you up, and now one of the most royally batshit houses in Westeros is getting its own show. A prequel series all about the Targaryen bloodline is in the works at HBO, according to Variety.

The network is reportedly close to confirming a pilot based on Fire and Blood, a companion book by series author George R.R. Martin which was released in November last year and explores in rich detail the lives of Daenerys’ ancestors, including the very first king of Westeros, Aegon the Conqueror.

The pilot will be written by Ryan Condal, the executive producer of Colony, and is rumored to be set 300 years prior to the original show. It is one of five planned prequels, which include The Long Night, a series set thousands of years in the past, during an especially harrowing winter where the White Walkers nearly wiped out humanity.

Plenty of screentime was devoted to the Targaryen legacy in Game of Thrones, from Viserys plotting to retake the throne and restore their house to its former glory, to Dany’s ascent from pawn to dictator, not to mention all of the characters who were well aware of the Targaryen family’s reputation for inbreeding and paranoia (Aerys wasn’t called the Mad King for nothing).

A prequel series could dig into the Targaryens’ backstory in a much more satisfying way: it could also reveal that a lot of the “facts” cited by characters in Game of Thrones played out differently in real life… history is written by the victors, after all. Were the Targaryens a noble family from the lost city of Valyria, or did they just have a really good PR team? Hopefully Fire and Blood will go ahead and we’ll find out… if HBO can afford all those platinum wigs.
